Pink's Bottom Line on Media, Money and Sports
Most watched programming on Netflix, popularity of cryptocurrency and the return of two top NFL quarterbacks
In today’s newsletter, I discuss the most watched programming on Netflix, popularity of cryptocurrency and the return of two top NFL quarterbacks.
MEDIA: Most Watched Programming on Netflix
For those who subscribe to Netflix, you know that it lists the top ten most watched shows and movies when you log in to the streaming service.
In my very unofficial review of Netflix today, I noticed that all of the top ten most watched programs were Netflix original productions.
Pink's Bottom Line
Additionally, the most watched item on Netflix today is Red Notice, a movie with superstars Dwayne Johnson, Ryan Reynolds and Gal Gadot.
While Netflix still buys plenty of programming from external sources, it is its original production — often big-budget programming like Red Notice — that drives viewership and, ultimately, subscriptions for the streaming service.
As such, Netflix and other competitive video streaming services will continue to spend big money on production for the foreseeable future.
MONEY: Popularity of Cryptocurrency
With Bitcoin hovering near record levels these days, more Americans are beginning to pay closer attention to all cryptocurrencies.
Pink's Bottom Line
Notably, among men between the age of 18 and 29, a whopping 43% said they have used, traded or invested in a cryptocurrency — among women of that same age group, 19% said the same.
That high usage among the 18 to 29 demographic shows the popularity of cryptocurrency among the younger generation, and it suggests that this age group might eschew traditional investment in stocks and bonds in favor of cryptocurrency.
SPORTS: Return of Two Top NFL Quarterbacks
In the NFL, the Green Bay Packers host the Seattle Seahawks today in a game that features two of the leagues top quarterbacks — Green Bay’s Aaron Rodgers and Seattle’s Russell Wilson.
However, it had been anything but certain that these two would actually face each other this week.
That’s because both Rodgers and Wilson have missed action recently for the their teams — Rodgers didn’t play last week for the Packers due to a positive coronavirus test while Wilson missed the last few games for the Seahawks with an injured finger.
Pink's Bottom Line
Look for both Rodgers and Wilson to have outstanding performances in what should be the best game of the weekend in the NFL.
Fans and the media pilloried Rodgers last week because of the way he misled them about his vaccination status.
As a result, Rodgers will look to change that narrative from his vaccination status to his outstanding play.
Meanwhile, Wilson is returning to the lineup a few weeks earlier than expected from that finger injury.
Wilson will play his best today because if the Seahawks lose to the Packers, Seattle’s record will be 3-6 and the team will struggle to make the playoffs.
