Pink's Bottom Line on Media, Money and Sports
Most downloaded non-gaming apps, office occupancy rates and Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers
In today’s newsletter, I discuss the most downloaded non-gaming apps, office occupancy rates and Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
MEDIA: Most Downloaded Non-Gaming Apps
After TikTok, Facebook-owned apps again dominated the top ten list of most downloaded non-gaming apps in September, according to Sensor Tower data.
Pink's Bottom Line
The Facebook app itself was the second most downloaded overall followed by Instagram, WhatsApp and Messenger, all owned by Facebook, which ranked third, fourth, and fifth, respectively.
The ubiquity of Facebook-owned apps underscores the reliance that many users have on Facebook as a corporation.
Additionally, Facebook as a corporation is under regulatory scrutiny around the world — that could potentially usher in changes for the company, which, in turn, could impact those users that rely so heavily on these Facebook-owned apps.
MONEY: Office Occupancy Rates
Office occupancy rates, which fell sharply during the pandemic, have been rebounding in the past few weeks according to data from Kastle Systems, an office security company.
The average office occupancy rate in ten major cities across the United States tracked by Kastle rose to 36.1% last week from 35% the prior week, according to the Kastle Systems Back to Work Barometer.
Pink's Bottom Line
Notably, the average office occupancy rate in each of these ten major cities tracked by Kastle Systems each increased on week-over-week basis — in Houston, for example, the average office occupancy rate rose to 51.1% this week from 48.5% the previous week.
The Kastle data is the latest evidence that workers are beginning to return to offices at a fairly regular clip these days as national coronavirus cases are declining.
SPORTS: Tom Brady and the Bucs
While I have written quite a bit about top young NFL quarterbacks like Lamar Jackson, Patrick Mahomes and Justin Herbert, I haven’t written much about Tom Brady of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, probably the top quarterback in the NFL so far this season.
Brady’s stats this year are remarkable, especially considering he is well past age 40 — he currently leads the league in passing yards with 1,767 and he is second in touchdown passes with 15, just one shy of league leader Mahomes.
Pink's Bottom Line
Brady has led the Bucs to 12 wins in their past 13 games including the 2020 regular season and playoffs and this year’s regular season.
Tampa Bay currently looks likes the class of the NFC with the Dallas Cowboys, who lost to the Bucs 31-29 in the first week of the season, as Tampa Bay’s top challenger in the conference.
That said, if Brady continues his exceptional performance — and there is no indication he is declining in any way — then Tampa Bay will be Super Bowl bound once again this year.
