Pink's Bottom Line on Media, Money and Sports
Twitter Blue, consumer prices and Heisman Trophy favorites
In today’s newsletter, I discuss Twitter Blue, consumer prices and Heisman Trophy favorites.
MEDIA: Twitter Blue in the U.S.
Twitter traditionally has been a free service supported by ads, so the move to a subscription offering in the United States indicates that the company is looking to tap in to a new and potentially lucrative revenue stream.
Pink's Bottom Line
Twitter Blue has a number of features that makes it different from regular Twitter, including one feature designed specifically for news consumers.
Twitter has partnered with many large news organizations so Twitter Blue users can read articles from these organizations on Twitter in an ad-free environment.
If Twitter Blue is indeed successful and generates meaningful subscription revenue, look for Twitter to roll out more subscription offerings very soon.
MONEY: Consumer Prices
Prices at the consumer level soared again in October, according to a government report released earlier today.
Pink's Bottom Line
That 6.2% increase over the past 12 months is the biggest annual increase since November 1990.
As such, the CPI suggests yet again that inflation at the consumer level remains a real problem, and not a transitory one.
SPORTS: Heisman Trophy Favorites
In the past few years, the Heisman Trophy, awarded to the top college football player in the country, has been won by a quarterback of one of the top teams in the country.
Based on the latest odds from FanDuel Sportsbook, this year will be no different with one notable exception — this year’s favorites are both freshmen, not upperclassmen.
Pink's Bottom Line
Both Young and Stroud are having exceptional seasons, and it is likely that their respective teams will both make the College Football Playoff (CFP) again this year.
That said, both Alabama and Ohio State have some tough games remaining on their schedules, so the Heisman Trophy likely will be won by either Young or Stroud by their performances in these games.
